an unusual break.

during this Christmas break I have been anything but my normal self. on any average vacation, I would be scrambling to make plans for every waking moment. i thought it was fun having days as full as books and never staying inside the house for too long. I used to complain even if I was bored for a mere hour, I was never able to enjoy the peace and quiet of relaxation…
fast forward to the Christmas break of my sophomore year. things started rapidly as I scrambled to whip up holiday treats for family gatherings and assemble the last of my Christmas gifts. but once Christmas day came and went I was left with only remnants of the sweet smells and glow of twinkly lights.
the not-so-good part… i have spent the majority of my time off sitting at home in my pajamas watching survivor and eating unhealthy (but delicious) candy I was kindly gifted by loved ones. the funny thing is that I was so hopelessly oblivious that I didn’t even realize how little I had accomplished until my break was already halfway over.
the redeeming aspect… it may sound boring and in no way productive to lounge around the house for many hours on end, but I have surprisingly learned many things about myself resulting from this time. (and mind you, I also put in a fair share of hours at my job working as a fill-in; still not necessarily fun though).
10 things i have found while taking part in relaxing during winter break:
1. I don’t need anybody to keep me entertained, nor do I need to leave my humble abode.
2. Sometimes the best therapy is taking time for yourself and hearing out your thoughts.
3. Blogging is much better than interacting with human beings.
4. When you’re not always busy, you are left with more time for rediscovered hobbies (such as jogging).
5. With all the extra time to sweep your mind for thoughts, you may come across hobbies or careers you might want to pursue in the future (maybe in college).
6. I have helped myself let go of long-term baggage (aka people).
7. I have gotten back into the habit of reading and my love for it has returned.
8. I realized that the number of likes you get on a photo shouldn’t effect you anymore than a tiny fly effects a giant horse.
9. There are many benefits and perks to being a blogger that I had no clue even existed.
10. I’ve rediscovered the things I love in life.

Holiday Treats Made With Kiss me Organics Matcha


I was recently introduced to a new brand of green tea called Organic Matcha. don’t be fooled, this creation is not any normal tea. instead of only the concentrated remnants of the green plant, used by most companies, Kiss Me Organics brand uses even the leaves themselves, finely ground and ready to dissolve into nearly anything. therefore, the powdery substance has more beneficial affects on ones life, body and mind than regular green tea bags. the formula provides you with skin improvement, extra energy, anti-aging, a boost in metabolism, help with focusing and it is a fast calorie burner. i don’t know about you, but those perks sound unmistakably good to me for my health. not to mention the matcha tastes amazing and can be incorporated into essentially anything you want to bake, cook or liquify. kiss me organics green tea is certified as an organic product by the USDA, it is vegan, and non GMO as well.photo 2

what i recommend is to put about 1/2-1 teaspoon matcha into a cup of hot water and drink it like you would regular tea. by doing this you can taste the raw flavor and get a feel for how you like it and what you would like to use it in.

the first recipe i made using green match powder was a healthy breakfast smoothie. i prefer to drink blended beverages in the morning instead of actual solid foods because i’m usually not overly hungry and i enjoy starting my day off with fresh and antioxidant-filled fruits and vegetables. i came up with this recipe and really liked how it turned out. photo 1

1 cup frozen tropical fruit blend

1/2 cup frozen blueberries (or any of your choice)

1/4 cup spinach

1 1/2 teaspoons matcha

1 1/4 cup chilled almond milk

honey to taste (optional)

simply put all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth and combined.

the second creation i made was my favorite and i would easily make it again, green tea waffles with whip cream. surprisingly, i liked them better than many normal waffle recipes i’ve tried before, they turned out moist, fluffy, flavorful and somewhat crispy. also, since they are vibrantly green they would suit a special occasion perfectly such as halloween or St. Patrick’s day.

1 cup whole wheat flour

1 egg, beaten

1⁄4 cup vegetable oil

1 tbsp. brown sugar

2 tbsp. matcha

1/8 tsp. salt

2 tsp. baking powder

3⁄4 cup milk

2 tbsp. lemon zest

1⁄2 cup heavy cream

2 tbsp. confectioner’s sugar

1. Preheat waffle iron an spray with cooking spray.

2. Add beaten egg to large mixing bowl and add in milk, 1 tbsp. matcha, flour, 1 tbsp. lemon zest, oil, brown sugar and salt until combined.

3. Ladle into waffle iron and cook until golden brown.

4. Combine confectioner’s sugar and remaining matcha and lemon zest with heavy cream and whip until stiff peaks form.

5. Serve a dollop of matcha cream over waffles.

makes three waffles.

and the final item i made was a healthier green tea latte. it only took me about three minutes and it tasted like something you would buy at a coffee shop for $4.50. since i own an espresso machine, i decided to steam my milk in order to warm it up, but microwaving works perfectly fine.

1 teaspoon honey

heat almond milk, and stir in matcha and honey.

overall, i really enjoy using this new product and i could see myself repurchasing it in the future. it makes me feel energized and healthy, and the biggest plus is that it tastes amazing also. there are many other recipe options that it could be used in, for example, brownies, cupcakes, cocktails or ice cream. i’m excited to experience the long-term effects it has on the body, mind and health during the coming months.

feel beautiful.

pretty. what is pretty? If you ask me, it’s the describing adjective you use when you don’t want to fully commit to saying the passionate and meaningful word, beautiful. it only makes sense in my opinion for every individual to not just think of themselves so shallowly as pretty, but instead, as beautiful. that doesn’t mean you have to be the most attractive person alive, but you respect yourself enough to see your beautiful qualities instead of a body made of flaws.
trust me, I know it’s a struggle to not want to pick out everything you don’t like about your face, weight, hair or body. but it’s important to remember that you were made to be an imperfect being. within being flawed, you are still as beautiful as you believe you are. if you spend too much time and effort worrying about your imperfections you’re only tearing yourself down and being unhappy. and I believe beauty comes from happiness. be you, come to love yourself and stop using the word ‘pretty’ as if it means something. be bold and use vocabulary like beautiful to show yourself and others around you that what’s important isn’t only how others perceive you, but how you perceive yourself. love your strong qualities and come to love your weak ones. be different and unchanged by the twisted society we call our generation.
