Beautifully flawed.

and now she’s fifteen, silently stumbling, learning how to exist in a world full of constant noise.

she grew up.

since she was three years old she impatiently waited for the next greatest thing, day after day. and just like that, her life floated by without her knowledge, the way a wide, desolate pasture slowly becomes a blur, being viewed from the small, square window of a car.

and as her eyes finally flutter open again, after the many years that were lost, she is someone entirely different. even she does not recognize the new face that stares back through the silver-trimmed mirror into her soft, brown eyes.

she is bound by the love of the heavens. her hands no longer tremble as she gracefully writes the delicate words that flow from her heart. instead of seeing the dull light of each day, she is now enamored with each new shade of green, lining the winding northwest backroads as she embarks on her next promising adventure. she is changed. she stands firm in her beliefs and her opinion is unaffected by outsiders’ thoughts.

and as her eyes explore the blue depths of the water before her feet, she sits, watching the last golden sun rays drift off of the shimmering sea, and in that moment, it is more clear to her than anything has ever been in her entire life. she is beautifully flawed. & just like her, the world that she lives in is beautifully flawed.

and now she’s fifteen. with nothing but the future ahead of her, and for the first time in her whole life she feels like the world is hers and no one can take that away from her.

Summertime Favorites // 8.25.15

collection 2

As the end of summer quickly approaches, I am thoughtfully reminded of a few things I couldn’t have made it through without.

The first being Jealous Body Scrub, the best product to keep your glowing, summer skin fresh until the last days of shorts weather. It is packed with high-quality ingredients, like coffee and almond oil, that are free from pollutants that reap havoc on the skin. I absolutely love the smell and philosophy of Jealous, plus it leaves the skin feeling softer than ever.

One of my other favorites would have to be the Super Sizer mascara by Covergirl. With it’s unique brush that appears to be smaller at the base and gets bigger towards the end, it gives my lashes the effect of falsies.

Lately I have been really enjoying special bible verses that correspond to things happening in my life, and I decided to paint a few of my favorite ones with watercolor to hang in my room.

Peppermint essential oil from Young Living is another one of my must haves this time of year. It does a wonderful job of clearing the mind, and making headaches disappear. Since the region that I live in has been very polluted with wildfire smoke, and I have a lot of neck pain, I have been loving the properties of many essential oils that I use in my diffuser.

Those are just a handful of my favorite things for summertime. What are some of yours? I am dying to tryout some new beauty/body/hair products, so if you have any suggestions please let me know.

Thanks for always being the best blog readers to me, Love all. Love Madeline.

God is so good.

Throught my roadtrip I feel blessed to have been drawn closer to God.

He makes it difficult to overlook his power and mercy when you are surrounded, daily, by his handcrafted mountains, lakes, greenery and wildlife. & the fact that I have been able to experience a whopping 20 Us states in just three weeks is something I will be forever grateful for.

“Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord; The Lord, is my strength and my song; He has become my salvation.” – Isaiah 12:2

On my trip, I have been reading the Word more than ever; helping to grow my faith and expand my knowledge. If you don’t know this about me yet, I have a tendency to worry about insignificant things throughout the day, and burden myself for no reason. & recently I have been saying a lot of prayers and doing my best to put my trust into The Lord.

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of it’s own.”

– Matthew 6:33-34

During the silence and intimacy I was given for my faith, I feel as though I am called to establish (and even lead) an amateur youth bible study in my small town, inviting anyone and everyone to join in the glory and Word of God. I wish to touch people of all walks of life while on my spiritual journey as well.

“You will be hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving. For this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.” – Matthew 13:14-15

I thank God for the precious time I was blessed with on the long road home. He is truly greater than any power or creator that will ever be.

I wish to use my blog as an outlet to touch more people than I would be able to in my day to day life. Therefore, if you have any questions about my faith or the bible I would love to personally answer them for you. Or if you ever need an uplifting or inspirational conversation.

Love all. Love Madeline.

the long road home.

Where do I start?

Should I first begin to explain my parents (incredibly insane) decision to drive all the way across the country? Or that they insisted on driving our huge green truck (that runs on vegetable oil) loaded with 3,500 pounds of oil so that we’d have enough to make it the 7,500 miles there and back?

I’ll admit, at first I was quite skeptical of the three week long road trip. Call me crazy, but between 10 hour days crammed into a not-so-big truck with my family of four, and the hankering I felt to have a normal summer hanging out with friends, I was less than trilled to reluctantly agree to the adventure.

And that is exactly what it has been; an adventure.

During the first week we made it through Oregon, Idaho (where we saw Shoshone Falls)

Utah, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, Conneticut, and, our final destination, Massachusetts.

I’ll just say riding in a car for a week solid is not my idea of… fun.

When we arrived in Massachusetts we were all just very happy our big truck made it! It was a relatively relaxing vacation, filled with spending time with family, shopping and even a weekend getaway to Newport, RI (another state visited, check!)

On the drive home (which I am currently in the middle of) we have made it through Massachusetts, New York (and visited Niagara Falls)

Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, South Dakota (where we saw Mount Rushmore), And Wyoming.

Later today we should be in, or around, Yellowstone National Park where we are planning to spend a full day and two nights.

Along the way, I have learned a good number of things. For example, never expect too much from low costing hotel rooms; you may find blood on the floor, damp sheets, questionable complimentary breakfasts, a tv that turns it’s self off or that your room is in the basement…. I’ve also found that finding good, mom and pop restaurants on the road is not as easy as Guy Fieri makes it seem; be cautious of mediocre diner food, a plethora of fast food (where, if you order chicken, you should be sure to watch out for something that looks more like a sponge than meat), wilted salads and nothing but big chain restaurants. Also, driving for hours on end makes me want to do nothing but sleep, ironically.

I now know all the lyrics to twenty one pilot’s vessel and blurry face album songs (because I’m the type of person who listens to the same songs for 3 weeks long). It pains me to admit that I am now a coffee drinker, whereas, a few months ago I wanted nothing to do with the substance. Also, so far I have read six books during my car time, including Blue Like Jazz, The Summer I turned Pretty trilogy, Wonder, The good, the bad and the grace of God. All lovely books by the way, which I would completely recommend.

But the largest thing I have learned during these past 2 and 1/2 weeks is that I love Oregon the most. Although many states are beautiful, something will always draw me to Oregon, my home- overflowing with adventure and really, the nicest people I know.

However, all of this said, I have (and still am) really enjoying our adventure and I wouldn’t trade these past weeks for anything in the world. I got to spend quality time with my family, grow closer to God and see many wonderful things, which is something to be grateful for is you ask me. //

Something that is more than prominent throughout the whole United States is simple… God is love, beauty and grace. His work is everywhere, and I am blessed beyond words to have been able to see so much of it this summer.

What have you guys been doing this summer? And where have you been to?

Love all. Love Madeline💜💜

Madeline’s favorites

Remember when I said I would be posting somethig very exciting?

Here it is, my current favorites all compacted for your convenience…

pictures: by far one of my favorite activities; photographing pretty places, people or things. the camera shown above is a Fujifilm 33mm film, only thes best.

books: oh how I adore a good read that makes you forget about your worries and real life. above, I have Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, and I’ll be honest, it wasn’t my favorite, well written book, but I was able to get through it and stay somewhat entertained. I honestly only read it because of the movie now out in theaters. I also included Eleanor and Park, one that I only recently started, but have high hopes for. I’m ALWAYS looking for another great book to add to my collection, so please don’t hesitate to add your favorites to the comment section(‘:

music: lately my life has revolved about beautiful sounds and the feelings they give me. hehe. two albums I have been listening to non-stop are twenty one pilots: blurry face and twenty one pilots: vessel. I have also been enjoying Misterwives. But my absolute favorite song of the moment is Alt-j: Breezeblocks. yes I know these songs are not extremely new, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be the best.

writing: my favorite journal with one of my favorite pieces of artwork on it; the tsunami wave. I have used this notebook for nearly four years now, simply writing my thoughts, troubles, praises and prayers in. words written on paper are very important to me; you can always keep them to look back on.

memory book: I love my Chatbook, or small, square book filled with pictures of lasting memories. I decided to name mine The Story pt. I because it symbolizes my life, and hopefully I will add on more and more.

swim suits: I have nothing but good to say about Target’s swim suit selection… they are all beautiful. I picked out this black top with accents of neon straps to go along with my plain black strappy bottoms.

anklets: or as my guy friend called them, “foot bracelets”. mine were originally wrap bracelets, but since I didn’t wear them anymore I decided to repurpose them and I couldn’t be happier with the results. they scream boho summer girl to me and I can’t get enough.

My last three favorites are self explanatory for the most part, I included them because I am currently loving them.

Important message: now that I have discussed all of my favorites with you, it’s your turn to tell me what you’ve been in love with! I want to know whatever your loving, but mostly your favorite music, photos, books and clothing. Tell me in a comment below and I will be picking one lucky winner to receive a special (and personalized) care package sent from yours truly. Yay!

– only open to US and Canada residents

– winner will be chosen by June 27th

– have fun!!

Cheers to the summer.

Summer has finally begun. The weather is warm, school is out, tan lines are emerging, hair is getting lighter… and Madeline is no where to be found on her blog…

Yes, I would like to first apologize and let those of you (who are reading this) know that I appreciate you so very much. Lately I have been enjoying the beginning to my summer a great deal by relaxing, going to the river, sitting by the pool and getting outside. Therefore, I have rudely neglected blogging and I will not live this way anymore.

Now, to give you an update on my life…. I ended school during the first week of June (yes, my school is awesome!). Since then I have been busy climbing a HUGE rock that’s practically in my backyard   I have also sat by the river bank once, and another time I went rafting with some good friends.

So far my summer has been mellow and fun.

On Saturday I leave for my young life summer camp for a one week stay (and I’m happy to say I raised all of the needed funds by myself just in time to leave!!). After I come back from that, I then leave for a three week long family road trip across the entire country in order to visit family back East which should be interesting. ha.

Well now you know my plans for life. I want to know what all of you lovely people are doing for the summer of 2k15?!

That’s all for today, but please stay tuned because in the near future I will be doing a small giveaway and a special summer post! I love you all

Prayers, answered.

I recently went camping in Bend, Oregon. The scenery is killer, the people are outdoorsy and the style is envious.

And let me tell ya, thrift stores in wealthy, sporty cities are treasure troves of beautiful clothing. A lot of beautiful clothing.

So here’s a small story. For only a couple of weeks before the trip I had a  (very weird) yearning for a pair of hiking sandal (like Tevas or Chacos) since summer is quickly approaching. I even asked my mom if she ever spots any at second hand stores, and her reply was simple, “no, they are too valuable”. So, when we get to Bend I see nearly everyone sporting the sandals that I so desperately want.

Now, as we’re on our way out of town, vintage travel trailer in tow, we happen to stop at a Goodwill superstore. And of you’ve ever been to one of those on a lucky day, ahhh you know it’s like you’ve entered heaven. Low and behold my sister finds me a pair of Chaco’s that look barely worn! And they’re my size! It would be easy to say that was the highlight of my trip, but we also went to beautiful places like the Painted Hills, so really the whole voyage was a blessing!

I also managed to find a little boy’s tshirt. Because what teenage girl doesn’t want to look just like a 12 year old boy?

But seriously, I see quite a lot of potential for this small shirt. I’m hoping to cut of the arms and pray I still look like a girl. hah

I picked up this simple nike workout top that looks brand new. And this pair of slouchy boyfriend jeans; something I’ve been wanting for forever (although they are missing a button).

This American Eagle peplum loose shirt isn’t too shabby either.

Aside from the Chacos, I found yet another amazing item.

Yes, I found a new Free People dress. It’s bohemian and flowy and lacy. It’s beautiful. However, I won’t be keeping it, but rather selling it because it doesn’t fit me the way I’d like and someone else would like it much more than me. If you’re interested in buying this cute number from me, here’s a link to my Vinted site where you can view it and a handful of other adorable  things.

Style inspiration: Aimee Song

Aimee Song has a fearless style that stands out in every atmosphere.

I’m drawn to her unique combinations and clothing pieces. Her photos on Instagram catch my eye because of their vibrant colors and beautiful backdrops. You can tell she is in touch with style trends as she poses with her adorable hairstyle and cat eye glasses while positioning herself as a piece of artwork on a canvas.

Aimee sports both high fashion clothes and laid back, boho wear; something that I strive to embody.

She is my current inspiration and I hope you like her as much as I have grown to. Who’s your style icon of the moment?

I hope all of you wonderful moody readers enjoyed this inspiration on this fine Sunday morning. What’s been going on in your life? I want to know!

Love all. Love madeline. Xoxo

Live love northwest.

A few days ago, on a mysteriously foggy morning near the base of mount Ashland, my sister and I hiked a steep, jagged rock.

The trail was really something to behold and near the top was even prettier. Although my sister came home with a small cut and bruise, there was no harm, no fowl.

To get to the very top of the giant rock, you have to summit a small, nearly vertical portion. The view is supposed to be an amazing 360 degree lookout at the top and the climb can be achieved without any equipment. However, my sister an I didn’t end up summiting it that day, we are already planning a trip to go back.

Who else loves to hike the beautiful outdoors? There is truly something pure about how in-touch you feel with your surroundings. The atmosphere God created for creatures of all shapes and sizes is many times breathtaking; it amazes me to think that I am deserving of his love and beauty.

Mom’s day.

To celebrate the women who have always cared for us…

Here are a few useful ideas for the lazy minds on this Mother’s Day. Because we all know how important that perfect gift is that will warm our mom’s heart.

to kick it off with a bang! here’s a cookbook that would make your mother happy and your tummy happier.

I don’t know about yours, but mine likes relaxing spa products to unwind with after a stressful day. Pacifica would be the best choice since they’re made with natural ingredients so…

Take your mom out for a coffee date. Or simply bring the coffee to her and chat in the comfort of your home.

Give your mom the best mani pedi she has ever had.

Let (or make) her read your favorite book(;

Succulents are good. Moms like succulents.

Bring her a giant bundle of flowers to make her feel special.

Or a slightly smaller bundle with just as much vibrance.

Handmade jewelry makes my mama smile.

Lush takes great care of moms with their gift packages.

Take a selfie with your mother and make her know how rad she is, inside and out.

Cook (or buy) her her favorite meal; whether it be breakfast, lunch or dinner.

And lastly, let your mom know how special she is to you. Write a card, give a speech, hand make a gift, anything to reflect the beauty you see in her. Because really, really, what would we do without the person who has always supported and loved us, our mom. Cheers to a happy Mother’s Day!
