Vintage love.

Vintage is delightful, plain and simple.

The treasures that came be found at second hand stores are truly unreal. Of course, you won’t always have the best luck, but when you do it can be a, “thank you Jesus!” moment.

For example, this dress. I couldn’t tell you the exact era it’s from, but darn is it a gem. The pattern is different than any I’ve seen, and the style is complimenting and classy on many figures.

DSC_0754 DSC_0756

This is the perfect boho summer dress. Everything about it screams fresh and laid-back. The intricate patterns draw my eye in, while the fit is loose and comfortable.

DSC_0808

Here is a gorgeous fancy white lace dress. If it were a bit longer, I’d call it a wedding dress. Those sleeves are to die for.

DSC_0827 DSC_0828 DSC_0844

One of my all time favorites; these rockin’ printed ’80’s pants. Holy cow, how much more amazing can they get?

DSC_0865 DSC_0869

As we all know very well,  the ’70’s are back and better than ever. These huge bell-bottom jeans are the center of attention in any look.

DSC_0893

Here is an adorable crocheted, summer blouse. Perfect for relaxing by the pool or dancing to a band at Coachella.

DSC_0907

Another Coachella must; this fringe vest is in a category all it’s own. Love love love.

Love all. Love Madeline.

A rare and glorious beach day.

nothing is better than seeing that the weather will be in the high seventies at the oregon coast. that is, when u live in oregon.
especially since my small town has been encased with a groggy fog for weeks on end, it was such an unexpected treat to escape to the coast. or so we thought…
the day started off well, we gathered together loads of belongings to be shoved into the car, ate breakfast and got our never-forgotten Dutch bros.

It wasn’t until we had been driving for about 25 minutes that there was a sudden “POP” sound, then the feeling of off kilterness in the backseat, and finally the grinding of metal upon pavement as my dad’s extremely heavy truck scraped to a stop.
wanna guess what happened?

…. Yes, you’re right. Our wheel. THE WHOLE FRICKEN BACK LEFT WHEEL. popped right off of it’s securement and began rolling up the slight hill adjacent to us and stopped almost in unison with our truck.
my dad managed to control and stop the truck; but only to be unseen on the shoulder of a partially blind curve where many cars fly by.
In a hurry, my mother was sent out to direct traffic away from our broken down vehicle as my dad hurriedly got on the phone with a towing service (thank goodness for the 21st century and cell phones).
All the while, people were beyond generous; supplying my mom with flares for extra caution in warning people of the wreck, two men carried the escape tire across the highway and back to us, and several others just asking if they could lend a helping hand. The gratitude that was offered in our small time of need was something to be admired in my opinion. As my sister continued making a fuss that all people wanted was to get in on all the “drama” that was unfolding, I was smiling because it’s a reassuring feeling to know that there are still some decent people in this world that stop to help troubled people out instead of only worrying about themselves.
After waiting for around 40 minutes (I was simply taking advantage of the beautiful view we were given to look upon while sneaking pictures of the commotion around me), we were rescued by a polite tow truck driver and driven back home, accompanied by our 3-wheeled truck.

My family and I were not going to let a small hiccup like this deter us from getting to the sunny ocean that was calling our names. As my uncle put it “we were troopers”. If we had stayed home, it would have been like saying “okay, you beat us, you won and now we won’t have any fun today”.
Well. We sure did show that not-so-great beginning to our day, because the beach was warmer and more beautiful than I have experienced in a very long time. Even though we arrived with not as much time as we had planned, we made the best of it and enjoyed every last drop of sunshine.
The beach was golden and there were people scattered across the shoreline, enjoying the special day, like ourselves. We met our cousins there and took joy in their company. We tossed a frisbee, played the chasing game with rippled waves, climbed massive rocks and watched the sunset illuminate the sky.
It was perfect and God was beside us all day long. He made sure we stayed safe during the tire failure and he supplied a glorious day at the oregon coast with people we love. He is awesome. Don’t you think?

I told you we had a gorgeous view….

Blend Bee Tea Review.

Screen shot 2015-02-13 at 1.02.10 PM   DSC_0006

There’s nothing quite like a piping hot mug of tea during the bone-chilling winter months, am I right?

Blend Bee Tea was kind enough to send me two of their popular loose leaf tea blends. After consulting with an employee, she recommended the Pure Glow and Nightea Night mixes since they would best suit my needs. They have a large selection of blends to choose from, you are even given the opportunity to create your own personalized blend.

When I received the teas in the mail, I was pleased with how cute the packaging was, wrapped in delicate pink and white striped tissue paper. A sweet and personal touch that Blend Bee added was the caption “Sweet Dreams Madeline” underneath the title of the Night time blend. After fawning over the outside appearance, I delved into the actual beverage to find myself in love with their products. The box came equipped with a muslin tea bag designed like an infuser and a handy scoop for measuring.

DSC_0021

The nighttime tea is filled with soothing ingredients including chamomile and lavender, sure to calm you down before bed. I thought it was clever of them to add stevia leaf and honey extract, both natural sweeteners, in order to infuse the tea with a healthier alternative than simply drowning it in sugar after it’s steeped. Since the tea is tailored for sleep, it does not contain caffeine, perfect for a good night’s rest. It is 100% organic and benefits relaxation, stress relief, detoxification, skin and hair. Not to mention, I am obsessed with the taste of it.

DSC_0017

The Pure Glow “love your skin from within” tea blend is sure to impress any beauty enthusiast. Packed with Hibiscus, rose hips, ginger and stevia leaf as the natural sweetener, this product will enhance the appearance of skin inside and out. If you want to go a step further, you can brew a cup of tea and apply it with a cotton round to your face as a toner. I would describe it’s taste as a trip to the Hawaiian Islands, sipping on a vibrant tea while drifting on a boat.

DSC_0014DSCN0518

All in all, I adore everything about this company and their healthy tea blends. Their ingredients are pure and the taste is even better. I would 100% recommend this brand to anyone in need of delicious and benefiting tea. Love love love.

Mountain Top Thoughts.

Today I drove up a small mountain ridge with a very close friend of mine while listening to soulful music and sipping on our tea.

It felt good, the sun was shining on our backs and the crisp hair reminded us of the still-prominent oregon winter. The view isn’t always the greatest at that particular spot, but today you could make out the subdued rolling hills just beyond our small town. It was perfect, and I happily captured every moment (even some not-too-pretty ones) with my newly fixed Nikon camera.

our souls were surely smiling today…

My Inspiration: 2/11/15

Each day I encounter various things (or people) that influence my inspiration. I consider myself a relatively creative soul, constantly searching for new and intriguing ideas and items. I’m one to enjoy intricate details and unusual or vibrant colors.

Like I mentioned in my last Instagram post, if there’s such a thing as someone who hops on many bandwagons, while entirely doing their own thing (or putting their own twist on the fad), I would most definitely, without a doubt, fall into that category.

Here are a few photos that recently caught my eye for various reasons… We’ll call it my weekly inspiration “board”.

IMG_8198-0

IMG_8197-0
Of course I had to feature the most inspiring Jules with her cute selfies.

And I added a new favorite lady of mine, miss Olivia who possesses a multitude of natural beauty and a breathtaking smile.

These lovely and adorable products have been calling my name for a couple of weeks now… The packaging is perfect.

Probably the most exciting inspiration for the week is the desire I have for an old, rugged jeep Cherokee. I want more than anything to buy one with my own money that I’ve saved up. It’s quite wonderful motivation for me to keep making money and I’ve always been a person who likes to see a goal at the end of the tunnel. This car is that for me, and I can’t wait until I get to drive my very own down the road and up a beautiful mountain.

Fit Snack Subscription Box Review.

Screen shot 2015-02-09 at 3.48.01 PMDSC_0045

When I first opened the Fit Snack healthy snack food subscription box that was delivered to my door, I was impressed by the variety and assortment of packaged treats.

I was lucky to work with Fit Snack, a company that encourages their costumers to stay active and live a fit and healthy lifestyle. Of course eating clean and working out are things I strive to do, but with the hectic life I live and the lack of time I have definitely don’t always help myself keep my goals in view. They are a monthly subscription box that costs $15 per month plus shipping and handling in return for a wide range of clean eating snacks that normally have a value of over $30 in the store. Fit Snack provides healthy alternatives for people who live busy lives and a wonderful support system to go along with their creations.

Most of their snacks, if not all, are:

nutrient dense- high in protein and complex carbohydrates and low in sugars.

consciously made- GMO free, produced organically and sustainably farmed.

diversified energy- gluten free, clean eating, paleo and raw.

My thoughts

Visually, the box is very engaging, decorated with bright colors and motivational pictures.

My two favorite things that were included was the guide for a full body workout (something that I’ve been meaning to do) and the sporty tanktop.

I was very excited to try out the various snacks because most of them sounded delicious.

However, I was quite disappointed with some of them, finding they either didn’t have a lot of flavor or their taste didn’t fit the description.

Since the box was packed with 9 different items, I am only going to share a few memorable ones with you, unless you are interested in hearing my opinion on more; in which case you could tell me in the comments.

Nogii Protein Powder

I enjoyed the protein powder, it tasted similar to many I’ve tried in the past, nothing special, but it does the job and tastes good. It is made with whey and quinoa, and is certified gluten free. Both vanilla and chocolate come in the box, ready-to-use on the go or at home in small, convenient pouches.

The Protein Bakery

Chocolate Chocolate White Chip Cookies-

These were one of my favorite food items, packed with protein and chocolate, they are a great on-the-go snack that tastes delicious and is easy to grab. Best of all, the baked cookies are also gluten free, following the wide-spread health craze that many people stick to. Wonderful product!
Peanut Butter Blondie-

I have always loved a good blondie, but when I sunk my teeth into the Protein Bakery’s I was very disappointed. It had a slightly grainy texture, I did not taste one hint of peanut butter, that it claims to be made of, and what I did notice was an eggy after-taste. Maybe it’s because the treat was made without gluten, or blondies are hard to perfect, but I couldn’t even finish the whole square.

Fit Snack- Veggie Chips

I really enjoyed the veggie chips even though I could imagine other people could dislike them. They are pack with fiber and vitamin A, and are low in sodium (unlike many other chips). The chips are good for your body and taste simply like a crunchy vegetable, something I have no problem with.

Simply Seven Snacks- Quinoa Chips

I liked the quinoa chips because they reminded me of sunchips, or chips that aren’t healthy for you (always a plus). They are gluten free and made with simple ingredients, perfect for people who are trying to keep a nice figure, but still crave a salty pick-me-up during a hectic day. I would repurchase the quinoa chips for an easy fill-me-up.

Oven Baked Orgaincs- Gluten Free Pancake Mix

DSCN0442

I found that I really enjoyed the pancakes, they are gluten free (always a plus!), fluffy and light, moist and easy to make. They turned out slightly grainy, but nothing to worry about once you drench them in butter. I sifted powder sugar over mine, but obviously add whatever toppings you like best. Also, the idea behind the wet ingredients you’re supposed to add is that most of them are substitutable with even healthier ones such as vegan milk, or applesauce.

The mix is easily comparable to Pamela’s, which my house is never without. My family liked them, and I ate quite a lot. I give them an A in my book.

Thank you for listening to my thoughts on this trusted company, I hope you enjoyed. Feel free to test their products out for yourself and let me know your conclusions.

90’s Boho Chick.

I love finding inspiration in the places in which others never seem to look.

I mix vintage pieces with modern trends to create my one of a kind outfits. Not always do I put a ton of effort into my day’s clothing, but when I do I make sure it’s worth my time.

And trust me, many times I walk out of the house wearing a very unusual montage just to regret it hours later. I’ve sported some items that immediately have me thinking “wow… and this is the reason why I never wear this”, but I’ve also worn some things that make stepping out of my fashion comfort zone well worth it’s flaws.

Today I went for a bohemian vibe, coupled with a little 90’s flare- a trend that is sure to be seen while scrolling through your instagram feed. I felt that the look embodied my person style well, while making it easy for me to experiment with a few pieces that rarely get out of my closet. The only downfall to my get up was that it didn’t provide much warmth, something I desperately needed in the still chilly pacific northwest weather.

Insta Natural Eye Gel + Retinol Moisturizer Review.

Screen shot 2015-02-05 at 7.15.44 PM DSC_0157

Around one week ago I received the Insta Natural Youth Express Eye Gel and Retinol Moisturizer. The company is centered around using natural and organic ingredients in the skin care products, and getting rid of any harmful alcohols, parabens or sulfates. They encourage youthful skin and a healthy mind and body. Insta Natural stands behind each creation that is developed in their studios, therefore, they offer a 100% lifetime satisfaction money back guarantee on all of their inventory.

Since I do not suffer from aged and damaged skin or baggy under eyes I decided to let my mom use the two products for a time and tell me her results and thoughts.

let’s begin…

Youth Express Eye Gel

DSC_0161

After using the eye gel for nearly one week, my mom weighed in with her results.

She explained that past eye creams that she has previously tried out never seemed to please her, she said, “They left my delicate under eye skin feeling tight and dry, not moisturized like they claimed.” However, after she religiously applied the Youth Express Eye Gel she came to a different conclusion; it was actually extremely moisturizing.

My mother also began to see a decrease in her eye bags only after the short time she has been using it; something she looks for in a product since she struggled with keeping her’s at bay. One of her favorite things about the eye gel was the smell of; it’s very cooling and refreshing with hints of aloe vera.

Something that stood out to me was the fact that the container comes equipped with a pump, no a jar. I love that quality since it is more sanitary and less messy.

The only downside my mom found was that the product left her under eyes slightly sticky. But she still managed to wear a BB cream over it and eye makeup, it was only mildly annoying.

Overall, my mom thought the product was splendid and would recommend it to anyone looking to firm and plump their skin.

Advanced Action Retinol Moisturizer

The retinol moisturizer is supposed to repair and restore skin with it’s vitamin C, Hyaluronic acid, jojoba oil, shea butter, green tea and 2.5% retinol.

My mom doesn’t suffer from uneven skin tone all that much, so she saw no amazing results. But maybe someone who needs more repairing done to their face would have more luck.

She used it as a simple moisturizer in her normal daily routine, day and night. She said, “My skin felt much more hydrated than before, and it absorbed without problem.”

My mom liked it for what she wanted it for, average winter dryness, but noticed no other results in the short time she experimented with it.

I think the Insta Natural brand is lovely and has a great outlook on skin care products for a healthier more beautiful you. I would recommend their products to anyone looking for natural and organic skin pick-me-ups without hesitation.

AnnMarie Skin Care Product Review.

imagesDSC_0168

i’ve teamed up with yet another small skincare company to bring you a fabulous and fresh review on natural and organic beauty products that are sure to ensue many compliments on your radiant complexion. as I have mentioned many times before, I am just about the biggest sucker for chemical-free, good-to-your-body products made from undiscovered indie brands. I was recently able to try out the AnnMarie Skincare line; I was given both sample kits of The GetAway and Purify. Acne Prone Skin. I want to start off by saying just how sweet and caring the associates are who work there, they covered all of my needs and helped direct me to my best bets. they sell a very wide variety of items, whether it be from facial serums to body body lotions, they aren’t missing a thing. their packaging is simple and effective; I like how each sample container can be cleaned out and used again (recycling is a plus), they are equipped with easy-to-read labels, and the mesh baggies that encase each kit give their products a professional look.

every sample kit that AnnMarie offers comes with a ready-to-use $10 off coupon for any full-sized item that you liked from the small amount you were able to try out or any other item on their website. sounds like a pretty great deal to me!

DSC_0197

since I received a multitude of small samples I feel I would bore you if I reviewed each item, instead, I will quickly skim over several that stood out to me in order for you to get a good idea of how they work and what I like about them.

The GetAway

DSC_0179

what’s inside:

Aloe Herb Cleanser

Ayurvedic Facial Scrub

Purifying Mud Mask

Dead Sea Facial Scrub

Neroli Toning Mist

Coconut Body Oil

Repair Serum

Herbal Facial Oil for Normal and Combination Skin

is it just me, or is that a lot of sample product? awesome, right? onto the review…

Purifying Mud Mask-

DSC_0189

I was pleasantly surprised when I put this luxuriously smooth red mud onto my sensitive face. I expected some irritation or dryness (since it is still cold where I live), but my skin took to it well and felt a good deal softer after I rinsed it off. I enjoy the powder form of this face mask, simply because it allows everyone to create their own consistency rather than receiving one that’s already made and is either too runny or overly thick.

even though it’s a sample size I was able to get an entire three uses out of the product. overall, I really liked how the mud mask worked, I did’t care for the smell all that much, but with natural ingredients there’s really no way around that.

Dead Sea Facial Scrub-

DSC_0185

one of my favorites; I’m always on the search for the perfect exfoliator that isn’t too harsh on my delicate skin. the salt crystals still cleaned deep into my pores, yet they weren’t abrasive to the point of irritation. it smells of a faint lavender, which I love. the product left my skin without residue, feeling soft and clean.

Neroli Toning Mist-

I’d have to say this product takes the prize in my book. I absolutely adore everything about it; the best quality is by far it’s scent of freshly cut plumeria and subtle hints of rose. it sprayed on effortlessly and gave my face a nice, refreshing feel while locking in the moisture and keeping my face clean. such a simple product, but something I definitely want to repurchase in the full-size.

Purify. Acne Prone Skin

DSC_0191

what’s inside:

Citrus Mint Cleanser

Purifying Mud Mask

Herbal Facial Oil

onto the review…

Citrus Mint Facial Cleanser-

although not many cleansers impress me, I was elated to find how much I liked this one. the citrus and mint come together perfectly and create a very pleasant aroma. when you massage it into your skin, you’ll notice that it foams up nicely (something I look for in my cleansers) and gives your face a cool feel because of it’s minty freshness. it left behind no makeup or icky residue that some washes do. this is another product that I would have no problem recommending for purchasing in the full size.

all in all, I’m happy with the various products I was able to experiment with. I believe AnnMarie Skincare is doing wonderful things and I love their philosophy. I hope you enjoyed and think of giving them a try next time you’re in need of new skincare essentials.

God’s girl.

“As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways” – {Isaiah 55:9}

when the struggles and stress of life become overwhelming, God says in the bible to take refuge in Him and have faith that He will guide your life through highs and lows.
I am someone who feels safe being in control of the future, constantly making sure things are in order and go accordingly. however, being a Christian, I am often reminded of the different plans that God has for my life.

I can completely relate to wanting to solve problems myself and feel independent, but in all reality, mere humans made of flesh and bones aren’t always capable of working miracles…. luckily, there is someone who is. God. I like to think of him as my personal life counselor, in whom I can discuss anything and everything with; and he can help me through any obstacles I come across whether it be school, boys, morals, friends or family.

I feel that in this day and age, the younger generations too often seek help from their friends or people they think of as “rocks” in their lives, when they should be drawn to the Lord instead. I myself have forgotten Him in times of need, only to later realize how much more settled I feel after praying to Him.

lately I have been a bit overwhelmed with the loads of homework I receive from the eight total classes I am currently taking. two of them being advanced level college classes. school’s never supposed to be fun, but every year around this time I start daydreaming about summer and each day seems to drag on for hours.

on top of that, I have felt distant with a few friends of mine whom I was closer with around this time last year. I’m aware that people change and things can’t always stay how I want them, but since I’m the caring person that I am I can’t help but miss their wonderful spirits and faces.

I feel like I’m in a small rut, wanting things to be how I want them just because I say so. but low and behold, the world does not work that way and not everything can go as planned.

at times like this I need to remember that God will always be on my side, that I can trust him to help me work through the road blocks that I’m bound to encounter, whether they be big or small.

If I include him in my life and pray for only his plans to be made true, I know that he will to fill my heart with joy; just as he is able to color the sky blue and fill the seas with water.

“I lift up my eyes to the hills- where does my help come from? My help comes from the Maker of heaven and earth.” – {Psalm 121:1}

“In his heart a man plans his coarse, but the Lord determines his steps” – {Proverbs 16:9}

“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” – {Hebrews 11:1}

I hope you all enjoyed my small rant and hopefully at least one person could relate to it. thank you for always being stupendous readers, I am always open to sharing my faith with you and spreading God’s love. Have you been struggling with anything lately? if so, I would love to hear about it and how you approach dealing with it. or how you like to connect with God.
