God is so good.

Throught my roadtrip I feel blessed to have been drawn closer to God.

He makes it difficult to overlook his power and mercy when you are surrounded, daily, by his handcrafted mountains, lakes, greenery and wildlife. & the fact that I have been able to experience a whopping 20 Us states in just three weeks is something I will be forever grateful for.

“Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord; The Lord, is my strength and my song; He has become my salvation.” – Isaiah 12:2

On my trip, I have been reading the Word more than ever; helping to grow my faith and expand my knowledge. If you don’t know this about me yet, I have a tendency to worry about insignificant things throughout the day, and burden myself for no reason. & recently I have been saying a lot of prayers and doing my best to put my trust into The Lord.

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of it’s own.”

– Matthew 6:33-34

During the silence and intimacy I was given for my faith, I feel as though I am called to establish (and even lead) an amateur youth bible study in my small town, inviting anyone and everyone to join in the glory and Word of God. I wish to touch people of all walks of life while on my spiritual journey as well.

“You will be hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving. For this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.” – Matthew 13:14-15

I thank God for the precious time I was blessed with on the long road home. He is truly greater than any power or creator that will ever be.

I wish to use my blog as an outlet to touch more people than I would be able to in my day to day life. Therefore, if you have any questions about my faith or the bible I would love to personally answer them for you. Or if you ever need an uplifting or inspirational conversation.

the long road home.

Where do I start?

Should I first begin to explain my parents (incredibly insane) decision to drive all the way across the country? Or that they insisted on driving our huge green truck (that runs on vegetable oil) loaded with 3,500 pounds of oil so that we’d have enough to make it the 7,500 miles there and back?

I’ll admit, at first I was quite skeptical of the three week long road trip. Call me crazy, but between 10 hour days crammed into a not-so-big truck with my family of four, and the hankering I felt to have a normal summer hanging out with friends, I was less than trilled to reluctantly agree to the adventure.

And that is exactly what it has been; an adventure.

During the first week we made it through Oregon, Idaho (where we saw Shoshone Falls)

Utah, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, Conneticut, and, our final destination, Massachusetts.

I’ll just say riding in a car for a week solid is not my idea of… fun.

When we arrived in Massachusetts we were all just very happy our big truck made it! It was a relatively relaxing vacation, filled with spending time with family, shopping and even a weekend getaway to Newport, RI (another state visited, check!)

On the drive home (which I am currently in the middle of) we have made it through Massachusetts, New York (and visited Niagara Falls)

Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, South Dakota (where we saw Mount Rushmore), And Wyoming.

Later today we should be in, or around, Yellowstone National Park where we are planning to spend a full day and two nights.

Along the way, I have learned a good number of things. For example, never expect too much from low costing hotel rooms; you may find blood on the floor, damp sheets, questionable complimentary breakfasts, a tv that turns it’s self off or that your room is in the basement…. I’ve also found that finding good, mom and pop restaurants on the road is not as easy as Guy Fieri makes it seem; be cautious of mediocre diner food, a plethora of fast food (where, if you order chicken, you should be sure to watch out for something that looks more like a sponge than meat), wilted salads and nothing but big chain restaurants. Also, driving for hours on end makes me want to do nothing but sleep, ironically.

I now know all the lyrics to twenty one pilot’s vessel and blurry face album songs (because I’m the type of person who listens to the same songs for 3 weeks long). It pains me to admit that I am now a coffee drinker, whereas, a few months ago I wanted nothing to do with the substance. Also, so far I have read six books during my car time, including Blue Like Jazz, The Summer I turned Pretty trilogy, Wonder, The good, the bad and the grace of God. All lovely books by the way, which I would completely recommend.

But the largest thing I have learned during these past 2 and 1/2 weeks is that I love Oregon the most. Although many states are beautiful, something will always draw me to Oregon, my home- overflowing with adventure and really, the nicest people I know.

However, all of this said, I have (and still am) really enjoying our adventure and I wouldn’t trade these past weeks for anything in the world. I got to spend quality time with my family, grow closer to God and see many wonderful things, which is something to be grateful for is you ask me. //

Something that is more than prominent throughout the whole United States is simple… God is love, beauty and grace. His work is everywhere, and I am blessed beyond words to have been able to see so much of it this summer.

What have you guys been doing this summer? And where have you been to?

Love all. Love Madeline💜💜

a weekend at the dunes.

2015/01/img_7686-0.jpg
what a wonderful way to spent the extra long Martin Luther King Day weekend. at the oregon coast dunes with the sun shining and the wind gusting. with a great group of people (mostly guys) and delicious, homemade food. I was in heaven. it was my first time going to the dunes, and even though I don’t ride any vehicle, I had a blast. literally would never have thought I could have as much fun being completely out of my element, but it was surprisingly awesome! I loved watching the group of guys we went with jump their dirtbikes and manage their way out of sticky situations. how was I able to watch them? Logan, a friend of my sister and I, brought his small, purple Toyota that we mobbed around in with him. we had to sit three across in the front cab, squished together while we barreled up and down the steep sand hills. we went out during the day and in the dark as it was pouring down rain. I felt like every day was a different adventure, especially since they were things I had never done before. I was also able to go kayaking in the small, glassy lake that our rental house looked over on a clam morning. absolutely breathtaking. all in all, the trip was amazing and I can’t wait to return. what did you do this weekend? have you ever been to the dunes?

Instagram fanatic.

my love for Instagram (a personal gallery of my life and art) began around 3 years ago. I have loved it wholeheartedly ever since and don’t go one week without posting something new. I love the idea of “a life through pictures”, you don’t have to be famous or “cool” or have a lot of friends. all you have to do is post whatever you like, whether is be art, hobbies, selfies or even food. I’m a complete advocate for the popular app and I know most of you probably are too. usually I don’t self promote, but I work really hard on each image and I think you would like my page. I post my hobbies, my adventures and obviously a few selfies here and there.

oregon snow.

a day on the mountain was much needed. since mount Ashland didn’t have enough snow to open last year, I was unable to get my boarding in. funny thing is each year I start off not knowing how to ride as good as the year before. but with some integrity and perseverance I found my way back to my old skills (lol) and conquered the mountain in the short time I was given. the best part were the views and photos I was able to take.
do something out of your comfort zone this winter. love all. love Madeline. xoxo

feel beautiful.

pretty. what is pretty? If you ask me, it’s the describing adjective you use when you don’t want to fully commit to saying the passionate and meaningful word, beautiful. it only makes sense in my opinion for every individual to not just think of themselves so shallowly as pretty, but instead, as beautiful. that doesn’t mean you have to be the most attractive person alive, but you respect yourself enough to see your beautiful qualities instead of a body made of flaws.
trust me, I know it’s a struggle to not want to pick out everything you don’t like about your face, weight, hair or body. but it’s important to remember that you were made to be an imperfect being. within being flawed, you are still as beautiful as you believe you are. if you spend too much time and effort worrying about your imperfections you’re only tearing yourself down and being unhappy. and I believe beauty comes from happiness. be you, come to love yourself and stop using the word ‘pretty’ as if it means something. be bold and use vocabulary like beautiful to show yourself and others around you that what’s important isn’t only how others perceive you, but how you perceive yourself. love your strong qualities and come to love your weak ones. be different and unchanged by the twisted society we call our generation.
I was feeling beautiful just the other day, why should I feel ashamed? be confident and show your beauty off. don’t hold back. have a light inside you that people are drawn to, not one that turns them away.

“There is nothing more rare, nor more beautiful, than a woman being unapologetically herself; comfortable in her perfect imperfection. To me, that is the true essence of beauty.”
– Dr. Steve Maraboli

“Confidence is the only key. I can’t think of any better representation of beauty than someone who is unafraid to be herself.”
– Emma Stone

surprises.

I love surprises. ever since I was very young I have gotten mad at anyone who tries to ruin surprises for me. many children would rather know what the secret is, but I always took joy in the element of surprise.
you must be thinking ‘what do surprises have to do with anything, Maddie’ well to answer your question and tie my rambling together here’s what occurred a few days prior.
on Wednesday I attended school like any normal day. when it was over I got coffee with my cousin and sister. after, when my sister was driving me home, and we approached my house I could see a car that was unfamiliar to me. I thought one of my parents cars might have had to have some work done on it, causing them to drive a rental car home (basically, I didn’t put much thought into it). I removed my bags from the car and made my way to the house. my back door (the primarily used door to our house) opens into the mud room where all of our shoes are stored. I began to take of my shoes when my eyes landed on the shoes off my best friend (who recently moved to panama). you could imagine how fast my brain was trying to process everything.
after my realization I quickly made my way towards the voices I heard in the kitchen. my assumptions had proven correct when I first saw my best friend’s mom and then her.
the time was unforgettable, I was overjoyed with happiness and almost could not believe it was real. I could not help myself from crying.

surprises make life better. especially when many people put time and effort into something for your benefit. I am truly beyond grateful to be reunited with my best friend. God is working in my life.
(here are a few photos from a shoot we did in the beautiful valley and mountainous terrain of a place both me and her call home, Oregon)
